Practical Photography and Image Processing – 1:1 sessions

We all learn at a different pace, have different levels of knowledge and many people feel happier with a tailored approach that caters specifically for their needs.

I currently offer personalised one-to-one (or one-to-two) sessions which can improve your skills dramatically in a relatively short space of time. You might want help with operating your camera, understanding exposure & metering, using filters or honing your composition skills. Perhaps you are very new to photography and need help in getting off AUTO. You may be struggling to find a new creative direction or need help to develop project ideas.

If you need help with digital image processing, this can be combined with a practical session or as a standalone image-processing workshop.  We will primarily be using Adobe Photoshop software, although I also use Capture One, Adobe Lightroom and Nik’s Silver Efex Pro and am happy to help you to get the best out of these software packages as well.

I’ll send you a brief questionnaire initially to find out a little about your experience and knowledge, any particular areas you want to improve on, what equipment you have, and then we’ll have a chat over the phone to decide what we should cover during the session. I am based on the Wirral Peninsula and sessions will generally be held around this area.

Full day workshop:   £280 (1:1 session) / £160 each (2 people)
Half day workshop (4-5 hrs): £150 for 1:1 session / £95 each for 2 people

DATES: Currently on hold due to COVID-19 – please email to register interest.

Alternative Photographic Processes – Working Creatively with Cyanotype.

The cyanotype printing process is one of the earliest photographic techniques and is generally known for the cyan blue print that is produced. During this practical one day session you will learn how to create your own cyanotype prints.  You’ll be shown how to mix the chemicals to create different effects and colours, how using different types of papers can affect your final image and you’ll be able to try exposing your prints using both natural daylight and UV light.

You will also learn how to get started with the ‘wet’ cyanotype process, using plant materials and (weather permitting), experimenting out on the beach, letting the landscape interact directly with the light-sensitive papers.  All materials provided.

Cost:  £220 (1:1 session) / £150 (2 people)

DATES: Currently on hold due to COVID-19 – please email to register interest.

Bookbinding and Handmade Photobooks

A photo book provides endless creative possibilities for presenting images and can itself be a work of art.  They allow artistic control of every aspect; from design, sequencing, printing and production. I love the fact that no two books will be the same, the hand of the artist evident in each carefully-crafted volume.

  • Concertina / leporello binding – 1 day workshop
  • Japanese stab binding / sewn binding – 1 day workshop

During these one day workshops you will learn how to use different binding techniques to create unique, handcrafted books.  A selection of book making cloths, papers and tools will be supplied.

Location: Studio space at Blue Moon Gallery, Wirral
Cost per day:  £95 (max 4 people) / £220 (1:1 session)

DATES: Currently on hold due to COVID-19 – please email to register interest.
